Douglas Lamond Chamberlain, our beloved patriarch and protector, left this world in the early hours of September 29th surrounded by the love of his family, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He maintained his great integrity and dignity to the end despite his tremendous physical challenges. His courage and determination to overcome any obstacle inspired everyone who knew him. He will forever be remembered for his loving and generous heart and ability to find value in all people. He opened his arms and home to all and made everyone feel welcome. He was a mountain of a man with a passion for the outdoors and was a true patriot with deep love for his country. His love for his family and dedication to creating memories was unmatched. He was a consummate seeker of knowledge and a scholar of the Scriptures. He took great joy in teaching his family gospel principles and was known for his unique capacity to understand and teach these principles. His ability to master anything he put his mind to was manifested in his life's accomplishments.
Doug was born on February 9, 1945, in Hollywood, California, the oldest child of Lamond and Ruby Robertson Chamberlain. He grew up in Southern California in the San Fernando Valley and attended Van Nuys Jr. High and Taft High School in Woodland Hills. He faithfully served an L.D.S mission in the Northern States Mission. After his mission he attended Brigham Young University where he received a degree in Economics. He went on to voluntarily serve as an officer in the United States Navy. Doug began his prolific career in the banking industry and segued into real estate and land development. He achieved numerous awards for commercial projects in both California and Utah.
Doug was the epitome of "greatness unlimited." His great legacy is his family, and his spirit will live on forever through them. He is survived by his cherished wife, Eve Horton Chamberlain, beloved mother Ruby Chamberlain, brothers Scott and Robert Chamberlain, seven children, Clark and wife Holly (Sellers), Cambria and husband Randy (Judd), Katie and husband Josh (Bevan), Clint and wife Elyse (Stowell), Kimberly and fiancé Tom (Mertz), Carlan and husband Neil (McBride), Carrie and husband Travis (Nicolaides), and twenty-one grandchildren. He is loved greatly and will be missed by many.
In his honor, a viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, on Sunday, October 2nd from 7-9 pm. The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 12:00 pm at the Parleys First Ward at 2100 East and Parley's Canyon Blvd. There will be time to visit with the family an hour prior to the service.
