I knew Dave as far back as Sequoia Junior High School. We were not close, but we shared the same kind of off-center sense of humor and enjoyed each other's company. He was very bright, and a natural athlete, though I don't remember him going out for any sports.
After our Winter graduation we car-pooled to UCLA during the Spring semester along with Barbara Harris. We were both taking Philosophy for the first time. He was in a course on the Ancient Greeks; my course was on the Moderns. We compared notes and argued, both of us trying to grasp what these thinkers were getting at.
After the Summer I went East to continue schooling and we lost touch. I know nothing about Dave's life after that or the circumstances of his death, and that saddens me.
