Linda A. Barclay (Beutel)

Linda A. Barclay (Beutel)

Linda Larson Ashley tried to track down Linda Barclay Beutel, going to her houwe and waiting to talk to neighbors and workmen at the property.

Linda was born on 10 Oct 1944.

She married her classmate, Wolfgang W. Beutel on 18 Jul 1963.

Wolf became an MD, and died suddenly in 1978.

Linda was a very active member of the Classes of 1962 reunion committee. We relied on her tremendously!

Linda died on 23 May 2025.

I will amend this notice if any further information surfaces..(SLM)

I dated Linda as a senior, taking her roller skating.  But the love of her life was Wolfgang Beutel.  She married him after their freshman year.  My wife and I played Bridge with them on Friday nites, alternating between Pasadena and our apartment near Culver City while I was in graduate school and Wolf was in medical school.  Wolf's tragic death in the late 70's was something she never really recovered from.

I hope she may rest in peace.

I am sad to read about Linda's death...she was a good friend and combined spirit and kindness.

Linda was a good friend throughout college days atr UCLA.  I remember her as always friendly and always free to talk.

Although Linda lived in a big house at the top of a hill and I lived in a more modest house at the foot of that hill, Linda was one of the most friendly and accepting people I have ever known.  With a big smile on her face, she would invite you to join in whatever fun she was having.  I remember sleepovers at her house with several of our girlfriends from Taft – always joyful events filled with music, games, swimming, lots of laughter and wonderful camaraderie.  Anyone who came in contact with her would see her big smile and feel her warmth as she would encourage you to join in (particularly at our reunions).  It was with great sadness that I learned of her passing.  She is definitely missed!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Linda’s death.  Shocked because I feel that Linda has always been a part of my life.  I met Wolf in the 5th grade, when he was fresh from Germany, and Linda soon after that.  During junior and high schools, I, along with many others, were the beneficiaries of Linda’s horse-back riding trips into the hills around her house and her many pool parties.  A particular memory is riding back to the barn behind Linda on her horse after mine reared up and went over backwards (both he and I survived).  They say that you’re just supposed to “get back on the horse,” but there was no way I was going to do that.  After UCLA, we both went are separate ways, but always kept in touch.  It’s hard to believe that I can’t just give her a call to check in.

Andrea Newcomer Larson and I went to Linda’s house because she hadn’t responded to texts, emails or phone calls.  Her house was being remodeled so it was clear she was no longer living there.  Fortunately, a neighbor was passing by.  He said that Linda, being a nurse, knew something was seriously wrong with her health, never complained but found it necessary to move in with her son.  She lived with him for about the last six months of her life.  She passed leaving her two sons and their families.  There does not appear to be an obituary.
