In Memory

Terrence "Terry" Guerin

On June 14, 2017, after a long battle with cancer, our friend Terence Matthew Guerin passed away. He was surrounded by friends and family at his home in Los Angeles. Terry left behind a substantial legacy, and unfortunately, a substantial amount of health care bills. To better care for him, his beloved wife Sanae took a long leave of absence from work to be by his side. She is now not only dealing with the loss of the love of her life, but also the cold reality of the cost of his treatment and care. We are asking for contributions to help Sanae, and they will be greatly appreciated. If the funds surpass the outstanding balance of the bills, they will go toward the publishing and promotions of the three novels Terry had completed. Thank you all for your compassion and your celebration of Terry's memory.

Terry was extraordinarily smart and talented; I know, we shared an apartment at UCLA for a year.  With his attributes I hope he found his bliss, where he was fully able to "bloom" in his time.  A remarkable individual; he was always just ahead me, and I hope not too far ahead for Terry.  Fifty years; moments in time....

Terry and I were classmates in grade school at Our Lady of Grace in Encino.  Terry was always an amazing guy.  Movie-star handsome, tremendous athlete, very smart and just a great all-around gentleman.  He and I were never real close friends, but we were proximate for a decade because we shared schools and classes and had some common friends.

Last I heard he had made a name for himself in the film industry and was back in New York.  Very successful I'd imagine.  Nothing he accomplished surprised me, but it is a big surprise that he has left us so early to be with the Lord.  God bless you and yours Terry Guerin.

I too was a classmate of Terry's at Our Lady of Grace. He was a real leader and terrific student and athlete. He gave a report on the revolution in Cuba that brought Fidel Castro to power. Nobody (including the CIA) had ever head of Castro, but Terry gave a very  comprehensive rundown on Castro, what kind of guy he was --both good and bad -- and what was in store for Cuba. He was spot on.

I hadn't seen Terry since high school, and still remember his gazelle like running over the hurdles in track and his smooth moves on the football field.  He and I were never that close, but always friendly.  Very nice person and always well meaning.  Prior to our last (50th) reunion, I got the information how to contact him and called him to tell him of the reunion.  I didn't reach him, so left my phone number and shortly thereafter he called me back, and to my surprise, remembered me.  He couldn't make it for the reunion and then we reminisced about Taft and people, track, football and swimming, coaches and teachers, about our lives beyond high school, had a few laughs and he sounded like Terry always the gentleman and always genuine. We talked a couple of times since then, but hadn't talked to him in the last couple of years.  I wish we had.      Andy
