Betty M Bivins (English Teacher)

Betty M. Bivins

Master teacher of English in the Los Angeles Unified School District, English Specialist in the LAUSD Area Office, author, owner of the Write Group, died peacefully April 2, 2007 at age 83.

Betty served in the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII and the Korean Conflict. She received degrees at the University of Missouri and the University of Southern California, winning the Emory Bogardus Award in sociology.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, Blanche and Earl J Bivins, her brother, Jack and sister-in-law, Peggy. She is survived by her niece, Michelle, grand nephew, Christophe, her niece Patti and her foster son, Carter in Kingman, Arizona. She will be missed by many friends in the Los Angeles area and Frazier Park, where she spent her retirement years with her beloved cats, dogs and birds.

In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated without services. However, if you wish to honor her memory, read a good book and reach out to help an animal. It would be a fitting tribute to Betty.

I was just thinking about her, and about how important she was in my life. Only had her for one semester, but she taught me how to type! I'm still using her lessons every single day . . .

Thank you, Miss Bivins!

She really taught me how to write!  She had high expectations and could be very firm but she really cared that her students learned the fundamentals of essay writing..
